DESIGN SOLUTION
My design solution for the Blettermanhuis renovation focuses on preserving the building’s rich heritage while introducing modern functionality and a warm, inviting atmosphere. In the reception and communal lounge, I incorporated original features like terracotta tiles and exposed wood beams, paired with custom furnishings and thoughtful design details that reflect its Dutch heritage. The guest rooms are designed to blend historical textures, such as reed-weave carpets and heritage green walls, with modern comforts to create spaces that feel both authentic and luxurious. For the bar and restaurant, I emphasized a connection to the site’s history by using archival imagery, handcrafted details, and outdoor areas that invite guests to engage with the surroundings. This design approach revitalizes the Blettermanhuis, celebrating its history while transforming it into a contemporary boutique hotel that offers a unique and meaningful guest experience.
