DONER RESTAURANT
COLLABORATION PROJECT
University Project
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project involved developing a complete design solution for a new food franchise introducing authentic Turkish and German Döner kebab cuisine to the South African market. The concept centres on delivering high quality, flavour driven meals including traditional Turkish kebabs, German Döner, and vertically grilled meat skewers served in pita or wraps with fresh salads, vegetables, and sauces. The offering presents a healthier alternative to conventional fast food, with hygiene, efficiency, and quality equipment forming a critical part of the design brief.

The final design solution, Spin and Spice, reflects a dynamic fusion of Turkish, German, and South African influences. The interior balances authenticity with contemporary appeal, creating a space that feels both vibrant and welcoming. Yellow serves as a focal colour, symbolising the fusion of cultures, and is layered against natural materials such as stone, metal, and wood, with mid toned melawood and urban inspired lighting enhancing the modern aesthetic.
Subtle African patterns introduce a local identity, while curved forms inspired by the name Spin and Spice are expressed through spatial flow and detailing. Wood elements add warmth and a sense of premium quality, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to excellence.

Beyond aesthetics, the design prioritises cleanliness, functional layout, and operational efficiency, ensuring a hygienic environment while cultivating a lively atmosphere that evokes flavour, energy, and community. The result is a contemporary fast casual dining space that elevates the everyday Döner experience.
