THE BLETTERMANHUIS

ADAPTIVE REUSE PROJECT

University Project

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The renovation of Blettermanhuis transforms a historic landmark into a contemporary boutique hotel, carefully balancing heritage preservation with modern luxury. The objective was to retain the building’s architectural and cultural significance while introducing refined interiors suited to today’s discerning traveler.

Original elements such as terracotta tiles and exposed timber beams were preserved and celebrated, forming the foundation of the design. These historic features are layered with custom furnishings, warm textures, and subtle references to Dutch heritage to create a welcoming yet elevated atmosphere.

Guest rooms combine heritage tones, reed-weave carpets, and rich green walls with modern comforts, achieving a seamless blend of authenticity and sophistication. In the bar and restaurant, archival imagery and handcrafted details strengthen the connection to the site’s history, while outdoor areas encourage guests to engage with the surroundings.

The result is a revitalized Blettermanhuis - a boutique destination where past and present coexist, offering guests a stay that is both meaningful and memorable.
