INCLUSIVE HOME
RESIDENTIAL DESIGN
University Project
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This residential renovation focused on creating an inclusive, functional home tailored to address specific mobility needs. The objective was to design a space that supports ease of movement and independence, while reflecting the homeowners’ personal style within a considered mid-range budget.

The final design presents a warm, farm-style home grounded in neutral tones with subtle pops of colour. Inclusivity was seamlessly integrated into the aesthetic through thoughtful spatial planning. Existing stairs were replaced with ramps to ensure full accessibility, and select doors were converted to sliding systems for ease of use. All doorways and openings were designed to comply with appropriate wheelchair accessibility standards, ensuring comfortable and unrestricted movement throughout the home.

In the bathroom, a floating vanity allows wheelchair access, complemented by grab rails and a built-in shower bench for added support and comfort. The kitchen was carefully detailed with pull-out shelving, a pull-out countertop, and varied counter heights to accommodate both seated and standing use.

The result is a home that feels welcoming and characterful, while prioritizing comfort, dignity, and effortless day-to-day functionality.
