PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This university project explored the design of a proposed office expansion for Booking.com, with a strong focus on creating a healthy, high-performing workplace. The selected office space was designed in accordance with healthy working principles, incorporating fresh air ventilation systems, passive heating and cooling strategies, and the maximisation of natural light. The objective was to meet the brand’s requirements while fostering an environment that enhances wellbeing and productivity. South Africa’s diverse cultures were also thoughtfully integrated into the overall design concept.

The final design solution presents a vibrant yet balanced workspace that reflects both the Booking.com brand identity and the cultural richness of South Africa. Local influence is expressed through patterns, curated artwork, woven baskets, and a feature installation of the South African map in the brand’s signature yellow.

The Booking.com colour palette is woven throughout the interior, appearing in blue wall finishes, detailing between timber desk slats, yellow and white feature wallpaper, and complementary grey carpets and wall finishes.

A healthy workplace environment was achieved through the generous use of natural light, effective ventilation, biophilic design elements, ergonomic adjustable desks and seating, and thoughtfully designed breakout areas that encourage collaboration and comfort.
